
The 39th Session of the Islamic Committee of International Crescent(ICIC) Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania July 9, 2026
The 39th Ordinary Session of the ICIC was held on July 9, 2026, in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The session was hosted by the Mauritanian Red Crescent Society and attended by the ICIC President and ICIC members, as well as delegations from several Red Crescent and Red Cross societies in Mauritania, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Algeria, Tunis, Iraq, Nigeria and Jordan. Also in attendance were representatives from the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Bahrain Red Crescent and the Islamic Solidarity Fund participated vis Zoom.
The session opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran and speeches by H.E. Ambassador Sheikh Sid Ahmed Salek, Director General of the Department of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad; H.E. Ambassador Ali Mahmoud Buhedma, ICIC President ; H.E. Ambassador Blah Cheghali Mekia, President of the Mauritanian Red Crescent Society; and H.E. Dr. Aisha Al-Ayafi, Director of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. His Excellency Ambassador H.E. Dr. Saleh Al-Suhaibani, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,(OIC hosting State) was also present. The session continued until 7:00 PM.
The agenda focused on reviewing reports submitted by the ICIC Administration and its specialized organs, as well as their work programs, within the framework of their efforts to strengthen the Islamic humanitarian system, develop its mechanisms, and consolidate the values of solidarity and mutual support among the peoples of the Islamic world. The session concluded with the issuance of several resolutions and recommendations, and the Nouakchott Declaration on Humanitarian Action in the Islamic World was adopted.
