Participation of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent ) ICIC) in the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yaoundé -Republic of Cameroon August 29-30, 2024

Dr. Mohamed H. Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director, participated as ICIC representative  in the 50th  CFM Session of OIC, held on  August 29-30, 2024 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, under the title: “Developing Transport and Communications Infrastructure within the Framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation: A Key Tool in Combating Poverty and Insecurity”, under the patronage of H. E. Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon.

Speeches were delivered at the opening of the CFM session by H. E.Joseph Diol N’Ji, Prime Minister of Cameroon, H. E. Lugin M’Bella M’Bella, CFM of Cameroon, H. E. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania and Chairman of the 49the CFM session, H.E.  Eng. Walid bin Abdul Karim Al-Khuraiji, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, and H. E. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, OIC Secretary General.

All the opening speeches and the speeches  of the governments delegations, expressed their thanks and appreciation to the Republic of Cameroon for the warm reception, hospitality , good organization of the conference, and for condemning the genocidal war committed by the Israeli forces and the crimes of massacres against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They focused  the centrality of the Palestinian cause, the necessity of implementing the two-state solution, stopping the aggression of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, the necessity of a ceasefire , working to grant the Palestinians the right to self-determination and achieving the two-state solution that leads to the establishment of the Palestinian state on the lands occupied in 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital. Ambassador Riyad Mansour, head of the Palestinian delegation, gave a comprehensive briefing on the latest situation in Palestine, noting the initiative of the Palestinian President to go to the Gaza Strip, and referred to the advisory opinion issued recently by the International Court of Justice regarding the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and continuing the campaign to recognize the State of Palestine and gain full membership in the United Nations.

The OIC Assistant Secretaries General took the legal oath as of August 30, 2024, and a ministerial session held brainstorm to exchange ideas on “Developing Transport and Communications Infrastructure within the OIC Framework: A Key Tool for Combating Poverty and Insecurity”.

The 50th  CFM  session  adopted many vital and urgent decisions and issues in the political fields,  the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, economic affairs, science , technology, cultural , social issues, women, youth , the elderly persons , humanitarian affairs, media, legal, foundational , organizational issues, and other issues important to the Islamic world, including Resolution No. 6/50-C the OIC specialized institutions, item (b) of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent.

The signing ceremony of some agreements issued by the OIC  held by the OIC member States, and the exchange of signature documents between the foreign ministers of the signatory member States and the OIC Secretary General, including the ICIC agreement, which signed by the Republic of Gabon.

The ICIC representative held  meetings with some  of OIC Government delegations of the OIC member States, namely Libya, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Senegal, Cameroon, Qatar, Yemen, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Bahrain, Chad, Niger, Oman, Afghanistan, Turkey, Morocco, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Niger, and the OIC Assistant Secretaries-General and the Director of the Legal Department of the General Secretariat, the institutions and bodies affiliated with the OIC organization, namely the Islamic Solidarity Fund, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Organization, the Union of News Agencies of the OIC Countries, the Radio and Television Union of the Islamic Countries, the Women and Development Organization, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and the Independent Organization for Human Rights,  on bilateral relations and issues of common interest.
