the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent (ICIC) delegation visit to Conakry, Republic of Guinea July 19-24, 2025
At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Youssouf Traoré, President of the Guinean Red Cross Society (CRG), the ICIC delegation visited Conakry, Republic of Guinea, from July 19-24, 2025. The delegation consisted of:
– Dr. Mohamed Hamad Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director.
– Mr. Furqan Qais Sherba, Director of the Center for Social Peacebuilding.( SPC)
This was to make arrangements for organizing the second promotional forum for the SPC one of the joint bodies of the ICIC, and the national workshop on irregular migration. Over the course of four days, the delegation held several meetings with the President of the CRG, members of the Board of Directors, the Secretary General of the Society, all members of the relevant departments and sections of the General Secretariat of the Society, and with the preparatory committee formed for this purpose. During these meetings, all special arrangements were made for organizing these events, and several hotels were visited, one of which was chosen. It was agreed to begin making the necessary preparations, and a date for organizing these events would be set. During this visit, the delegation held a meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Camara, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Youssouf Traoré, CRG President and Mr. Mamadou Diallo, Secretary General. The meeting introduced the ICIC and the CSP, as well as the reasons for visiting Conakry and the activities it intends to implement in Conakry. Bilateral relations between the ICIC and the Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also discussed, and a memorandum was delivered regarding the procedures for Guinea’s ratification of the agreement establishing the ICIC.
The delegation also held a meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Ibrahim Osman Ba, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Guinea, in the presence of the CRG President and the Secretary General, as well as the Director of Islamic Affairs, Deputy Director of Islamic Affairs and Deputy Director of Societies. The meeting was briefed on the ICIC and CSP, the reasons for the visit to Conakry and the activities it intends to implement in Conakry, and a review of the importance of the role that religious leaders can play in building social peace in all cases, among different groups. At the end of the visit, thanks were extended and an invitation was extended to His Excellency to participate in the second promotional forum on building social peace.
