The Ninth Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions December 10-11, 2025 Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Dr. Mohamed Hamad Elasbali, Executive Director of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent (ICIC), participated in the 9th Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACOMOAI), held on December 10-11, 2025, at the oic General Secretariat headquarters. The meeting aimed to prepare new projects for 2026 and was attended by delegations representing OIC institutions, Assistant Secretaries-General, Directors of Departments within the OIC, and staff from various departments of the General Secretariat.

The plenary session of the Ninth Annual Coordination Meeting of the Organization’s institutions was opened by H. E. Dr. Ahmed Kwesa Singindo, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, who delivered the organization’s address. He emphasized that this meeting was being held at a time when the development sector faces significant challenges, such as climate change, food insecurity, displacement, conflicts, and others. He explained that the timing and importance of this meeting were crucial, as it focused on the current status of activities across various sectors and examined and analyzed the priorities for the coming year, 2026, in line with the OIC relevant resolutions.

Separate sessions were held for the thematic committees, including the Humanitarian Affairs Committee, which was established by the Annual Coordination Meeting. Its work focused on conducting a thorough review of the implementation of activities agreed upon during the previous meeting in December 2024 and proposing new projects for 2026, agreed upon in the political, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, sports, family, media, and human rights fields.

The Humanitarian Affairs Committee held its meeting, chaired by Dr. Aisha Al-Ayafi, Director of the Humanitarian Affairs Department (ICHAD), in the department’s meeting room. Also present were Dr. Mohamed Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director; Mr. Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, Head of Programs and Projects at the (ISF); Mr. Ali Diallo; Ms. Iman Abdul Baqi; and Ms. Sarah Al-Dhahri, all from the ICHAD. The committee reviewed the progress made in the activity matrix of the ICIC and ISF. A new matrix of (18) joint projects for 2026 was then developed, in preparation for its presentation to the Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled to be held in Baghdad in 2026. E.presented the matrix at the plenary session on behalf of the Humanitarian Affairs    Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary General of the OIC, addressed the closing session,ICIC Executive Director welcoming all the heads of the OIC institutions who participated in the annual coordination meeting. He expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ discussions on issues related to the implementation of the organization’s various resolutions and commended the contributions of the OIC institutions through the agreed-upon activities.

The meeting was attended by H. E. Mr. Taha, Secretary General of the OIC. Following the conclusion of the 9th Coordination Meeting, a plenary session was held to commemorate World Food Security Day on December 11, 2025, under the theme “Strengthening OIC Food Systems through the Leadership of Rural Women and Youth.” The session, convened by the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOSF), was attended by the Secretary-General and representatives of OIC member states. In his address, the OIC Secretary-General stated that this occasion presents a valuable opportunity for everyone to exchange ideas and perspectives on how to effectively and collectively address the challenge of food insecurity in OIC member states. He noted that 234 million people in OIC countries suffer from food insecurity as a result of poverty, economic contraction, climate change, and conflicts, many of which are internal conflicts fueled in some cases by external forces.

  1. E. Ambassador Berk Arın, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), delivered a speech on the occasion. Statements were also made by Ambassador Mambury Njie, Permanent Representative of the Republic of The Gambia to the (OIC), in its capacity as Chair of the 15th Islamic Summit, and by Ambassador Cenk Oraz, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Turkey, in its capacity as Chair of the 51stIslamic Conference of Foreign Ministers.

Following this, a panel discussion was held on “Strengthening OIC Food Systems through the Leadership of Rural Women and Youth,” chaired by Abdulmanaf Metwalli, Head of the Bilateral Relations Office at the IOFS. The panelists included: Mr. Mazhar Hussain, Director of the Economic and Social Research Department at the SESRIC Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC); Dr. Bayola Kassim, Global Leadership Specialist for Rural Development at the Islamic Development Bank Group; Dr. Mamdouh Yunal, Program Director at the IOFS Secretariat; Mr. Yasin Zalfikaroglu, Specialist at the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Standards; and Ms. Esra Jamal, International Relations Officer at the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD). Bilateral Meetings:

Dr. Mohamed Elasbali , ICIC Executive Director held bilateral meetings with the permanent representatives of Libya, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria and Turkey, the OIC  Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, the OIC  Director of Humanitarian Affairs, the OIC  Director of the Protocol Department at the OIC  General Secretariat, the IOFS Director-General, the Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC , and the ISF Executive Director. Bilateral relations and issues of common interest were discussed.
