
The Islamic Committee of International Crescent (ICIC) Participation in the Launch of the Khalifa International Foundation for Humanitarian Works (KIF) Benghazi, February 10-11, 2026
E. Ambassador Ali Buhedma, ICIC President, and Dr. Mohamed Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director, participated in the launch ceremony of the KIF, held on February 10-11, 2026, in Benghazi. The KIF launched its activities in Libya and neighboring countries with a developmental vision, the event was attended by more than sixty representatives from international organizations with extensive experience in the humanitarian field, the two-day program included dialogue sessions with the participation of international and local experts and specialists. These sessions focused on building resilience in fragile areas, addressing complex humanitarian challenges, and strengthening health and social interventions, in addition to reviewing the KIF approach to integrating needs response.
The second day’s activities, a pivotal panel discussion was held under the title: “Humanitarian Interventions in Libya: Lessons Learned, Impact Analysis, and Challenges.” Dr. Mohamed Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director, participated in a session, his contribution on cooperation and partnerships, highlighting the role of the Libyan Red Crescent, the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority, and the KIF as new national humanitarian actorsm, these a national mechanisms capable of cooperating at both the national and international levels, he also emphasized the added value of the ICIC position as an international organization capable of empowering these mechanisms within the international humanitarian system and enhancing their international presence.
Dr. Elasbali also participated in bilateral meetings held between Mr. Mohamed Al-Majbri, KIF Executive Director, and guests from Africa, these included H. E. Ambassador Ali Timi, Director General of the Regional Office of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin; Dr. Nour Aboubaker, President of the Renaissance Association; and Mr. Khalil Ahmed Al-Sanousi, President of the Chadian Red Cross Society, the discussions focused on future cooperation and the handover of humanitarian and development projects needed by these organizations.
