The ICIC \u00a0delegation, headed by H. E. Ambassador Ali Mahmoud Buhedma, ICIC President, and including Dr. Mohamed Hamad Elasbali, ICIC Executive Director, participated in the 17th General Meeting of Cooperation between the OIC and the UN, held in Geneva from July 22 to 24, 2026. The meeting was attended by the OIC \u00a0General Secretariat, its institutions and specialized agencies, and a number of UN agencies and its international organizations.<\/p>\n

The ICIC \u00a0participation aimed to strengthen cooperation and coordination with the UN system and international partners, and to review the ICIC \u00a0role in supporting humanitarian and relief work and enhancing capacities in OIC member States.<\/p>\n
The ICIC delegation participated in the plenary sessions and coordination meetings, which discussed a number of issues of common interest, including responding to humanitarian crises, sustainable development, peace building, and strengthening international partnerships to serve affected communities. On the sidelines of the meeting, the ICIC delegation held several bilateral meetings with senior officials of the (OIC) and UN. These included a meeting with Dr.Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, and \u00a0Ambassador Khaled Khiari, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, Asia and the Pacific in the United Nations Departments of Political and Peace building Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO), \u00a0and a meeting with the Director of the Humanitarian Affairs Department , and Director of Cultural Affairs at the \u00a0OIC General Secretariat, the \u00a0Executive Director of the Islamic Solidarity Fund, the Executive Director of the Women’s Development Organization , Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, and Head Middle East (MENA) of High Commissioner of \u00a0Refugees. The ICIC delegation also met with representatives of several UN international institutions and organizations to discuss ways to enhance cooperation, coordinate humanitarian efforts, and launch joint initiatives and programs in the areas of relief, capacity building, and disaster response.<\/p>\n
During these meetings, the ICIC delegation emphasized to expanding its network of partnerships with international and regional institutions. This expansion aims to strengthen the ICIC \u00a0role in serving humanitarian work within OIC member States, OIC institutions, and United Nations agencies, contributing to the achievement of shared humanitarian goals and reinforcing the principles of international solidarity and cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
